Ingredients

  • 1 cup Murungai Keerai (Drumstick Leaves)
  • 2 tbsp Moong Dal (soaked in water)
  • 2 tbsp Coconut (grated)
  • Asafoetida Powder (a pinch)
  • Turmeric Powder (a pinch)
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp Raw Rice
  • 1 tsp Black Sesame Seeds
  • 1 to 2 Dry Red Chillies
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  • Dry roast the rice, urad dal and sesame seeds for a minute.
  • Remove and add the red chillies.
  • Grind this coarsely and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in the same pan.
  • Fry the mustard seeds until it starts to splutter.
  • Add the murungai keerai, turmeric powder and asafoetida powder.
  • Stir well.
  • Drain the moong dal and add to the pan along with jaggery and salt.
  • Sprinkle a little water and cover the pan with a lid.
  • Cook for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring once or twice.
  • Remove the lid and stir again.
  • Add the grated coconut and the ground powder.
  • Mix well and remove from flame.
  • Serve with rice.
