It is frustrating to eat rice when it gets sticky, hard or dry after cooking. There are different types of rice available in the market and each one requires a different amount of water and cooking time. A perfect way to cook the rice is the absorption method which works quite well for all types of rice.

However, you must remember that short and medium-sized rice grains require less water as compared to the longer grains especially when it comes to cooking creamy textured rice recipes such as risotto, sushi rice, etc.

Cooked Rice

Follow these steps to cook the rice perfectly:

  1. Pour water into a saucepan and boil it. Ideally, 1 ½ cups of water is required to boil 1 cup of rice. Some people prefer to add a little bit of salt into the boiling water (1 teaspoon) as it gives a better taste.
  2. Keep stirring the rice until the water begins to boil. After that, close the lid of the saucepan, reduce the flame to low and let the rice simmer for at least 18 minutes.
  3. Ensure that the lid is tightly closed as the steam might escape from the sides if it is not closed properly. Turn off the flame once the rice gets cooked and allow it to cool for another five minutes.
  4. Do not forget to fluff the rice with the help of a fork before serving so that the cooked rice grains get nice and separated from each other. Remember that one rice bowl yields 2 bowls of cooked rice.
