Cooking Tips

Chop the dried fruits and nuts finely for better binding. If the mixture feels too dry, add an extra teaspoon of honey. For easier rolling, slightly wet your palms with water. I always chill the mixture for 10 minutes before shaping into balls.

Makes around 15-20 balls. Prep time is 15 minutes plus 1 hour cooling. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Serve chilled as a snack or with afternoon tea.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I skip the honey to make these vegan?

Yes, replace honey with maple syrup or date syrup for binding. The balls will still hold together well due to the natural stickiness of dates and figs.

How long can I store these balls at room temperature?

These balls stay fresh for 2-3 days at room temperature but last longer (up to 2 weeks) when refrigerated. Always keep them in an airtight container.

Can I use other dried fruits instead of figs?

Yes, dried apricots or prunes work well as substitutes for figs. Just guarantee the fruits are finely chopped for proper binding.
