Malabar Crab Curry

Malabar Crab Curry
Crabs – 4, medium, cleaned, chopped
Coconut – 1/2 cup, grated
Green Chillies – 2, small
Onion – 1/2, big, chopped
Tomato – 1/2, big, chopped
Coriander Leaves – 2 tblsp, chopped
Ginger Garlic Paste – 2 tblsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Water – 1 1/4 cups
Oil – 1/3 cup
Black Mustard Seeds – 3/4 tsp
Dry Red Chillies – 2, small
Curry Leaves – few


1. Combine and grind the coconut, green chillies and 1/4 cup of water to a smooth paste.
2. Heat oil in a pan over medium flame.
3. Fry the mustard seeds till it starts to splutter.
4. Add the dry red chillies and curry leaves.
5. Add the onions and saute until they turn light golden.
6. Add ginger garlic paste and stir well to mix.
7. Cook for 2 minutes and add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
8. Add the chopped tomato and crab.
9. Cook till oil starts to separate.
10. Add the ground coconut paste and 1 cup of water.
11. Cover the pan with a lid and reduce flame to low.
12. Simmer  for 15 minutes.
13. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
14. Serve hot.
