Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen veggies for Sarson da Subzi?

While fresh veggies are ideal for capturing that vibrant, just-cooked flavour, you can use frozen pumpkin, cauliflower or potatoes in a pinch. Just thaw them thoroughly before adding to the curry and increase simmering time slightly if needed.

The gravy became too thick. How can I fix it?

No problem. Stir in a water or vegetable stock splash until you reach your desired consistency. Go slowly and allow the gravy to simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavours meld again.

What can I substitute for coconut?

If you want to avoid coconut, use about 1/4 cup of cashew or almond paste instead when grinding the mustard sauce. The nut pastes will still provide creaminess.

Is Carson da Subzi vegan-friendly?

Surely. This luscious vegetable curry is naturally vegan, making it perfect for those following a plant-based diet. Be sure to use vegan ghee or oil when frying the spices.

What are some tasty garnish options?

A: Fresh cilantro or coriander leaves make a bright, herbal garnish for sarson da subzi. You could also sprinkle on some sliced green chillies for extra heat, grated coconut for richness, or a squirt of lemon juice to heighten the tanginess.
