Puli (Tamarind) Pongal Recipe

Puli (Tamarind) Pongal
Rice Rava – 200 gms, broken
Tamarind – 100 gms
Dry Red Chillies – 2
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Bengal Gram Dal – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida Powder – a pinch
Curry Leaves – few, chopped
Oil – 100 ml
Salt as per taste
Water – for one cup of rava, you will need 4 cups of water (ratio is 1:4)

1. Mix tamarind with the water and extract a paste.
2. Add the rice rava and mix.
3. Heat oil in a pan.
4. Fry mustard seeds, dry red chillies, bengal gram, turmeric powder, asafoetida powder and curry leaves.
5. Add the rava-tamarind mixture and salt.
6. Mix well and transfer to a pressure cooker.
7. Cook until 5 whistles.
8. Serve hot.
