Ingredients:
Tamarind – 1 lemon sized ball
Arhar Dal – 1 cup
Red Chilli – 5
Channa Dal – 2 tsp
Coconut – 1 cup, grated
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Coriander Seeds – 1 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Onion – 2
Tomato – 2
Green Chilli – 1
Brinjal – 1
Lady’s Finger – 2
Drumstick – 2
Oil – 4 tsp
Coriander Leaves – 1 tsp, chopped
Salt as per taste
Method:
1. Soak tamarind in water for 30 minutes and extract juice.
2. Cook arhar dal.
3. Chop all the vegetables into small 1/4 inch pieces.
4. Finely chop the onions.
5. Fry channa dal, coriander seeds and red chilli in 1 tsp of oil.
6. Grind it smoothly with grated coconut and water.
7. In a pan heat the tamarind extract.
8. Add all the vegetables, turmeric powder and salt.
9. Add the boiled dal.
10. Add 1 to 2 tsp of sambar powder.
11. Allow it to simmer for some time.
12. Saute fenugreek seeds, asafoetida and chopped onion.
13. Add mustard seeds and mix it with the sambar.
14. Garnish with coriander leaves.
15. Stir well and serve hot with rice.
