Coconut Sambar

Ingredients:
Green Gram – 100 gms
Tamarind Pulp – 20 gms
Red Chilli – 5
Turmeric Powder – 1 pinch
Sambar Powder – 2 tsp
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek – 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
Oil – 50ml
Salt to Taste
Onion/Sambar Onion – 75 gms
Tomatoes – 50 gms
Asafoetida – a pinch
Grated Fresh Coconut – 50 gms

Method:
1. Cook dal till it is soft.
2. In one cup of water add tamarind paste and salt.
3. In a frying pan add mustard, fenugreek, asafoetida, red chilli.
4. When mustard crackles and fenugreek turns red, add sliced onion cook till slight brown.
5. Add the chopped tomatoes.
6. Add the tamarind juice and boil it for few minutes.
7. Add the coconut.
8. Add cooked dhal and bring it to a boil.
9. Add sambar powder and remove from the stove.
10. Serve hot with rice.
