  • 1 cup Urad Dal (washed, cleaned)- 1 cup
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 3 to 4 Green Chillies (halved)
  • 1/2 tbsp Ginger(finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • Salt as per taste

For tempering:

  • 1/3 cup Butter
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 cup Onions - (chopped)


  • Boil the dal with turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt.
  • Cook till tender and drain excess water. Keep aside.
  • Heat 1/2 tblsp butter in a pan.
  • Saute cumin seeds for a minute and add onions, green chillies and chopped ginger.
  • Fry till onions become brown.
  • Now add the dal and stir.
  • Add the garam masala powder, tomatoes and lemon juice.
  • Stir well and add the ginger garlic paste.
  • Mix well and add 1/4 cup of water.
  • Bring to a boil and add the 1/3 cup of butter.
  • Stir and mix well thoroughly.
  • Remove and serve hot.
