Ingredients for Jeera Rice

  • 1 cup Basmati / Fragrant Rice
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tbsp Jeera
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/2 cup Sliced Onions
  • 2 Green Chillies slit vertically
  • as per taste Salt

How to make Jeera Rice

  • Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker on a medium flame.
  • Add the Jeera, chillies and sliced onions and saute for 1-2 min.
  • Add the rice and mix well. Now add the 2 cups of water and salt as per taste.
  • Allow this to boil at high heat. Keep it covered, though not fully closed.
  • After you see the rice cooked to nearly 75%, close the lid with the whistle and reduce the flame to the lowest.
  • Allow it to cook this way for 9-10 minutes. Don't wait for a steam whistle.
  • Turn off the flame and let it rest till all the steam has reduced.
  • Open and fluff the rice with a fork.
  • Serve hot with any side dish of your choice.
