Gujrati Spicy Dal Recipe

Ingredients:
Toor Dal – 1 cup, boiled and mashed
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cloves – 2 to 3
Bay Leaf – 1
Cinnamon – 1 one inch piece
Red Chilli  – 3 to 4
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Jeera – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida Powder – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Lime Juice – 2 tblsp
Ghee – 1 cup
Salt as per taste
Tamarind Extract – 3 tblsp
Tomato – 1 cup, chopped
Green Chilli – 4
Peanuts – 1/2 cup
Dry Dates – 3
Raisins – 1 tsp
Jaggery – 1/2 tblsp
Curry Leaves – handful, chopped

Method:
1. Heat 2 tsp ghee in a pan.
2. Add mustard seeds, cinnamon, cloves, jeera and bay leaf.
3. Fry for 45 seconds.
4. Add ginger garlic paste and asafoetida powder.
5. Fry for 30 seconds.
6. Add red chilli, asafoetida powder, curry leaves and green chilli.
7. Add tomatoes and allow it to boil.
8. Add salt to taste.
9. Add turmeric powder and mashed toor dal.
10. Add dates and boiled peanuts.
11. Let it boil for a while.
12. Pour 1 cup of water and allow it to boil so that everything comes together nicely.
13. Add jaggery and raisins.
14. Add tamarind extract.
15. Stir well and continue to simmer for a while.
16. Transfer the contents to another vessel.
17. Garnish with coriander leaves.
18. Add lime juice.
19. Serve hot.
