Mag ni Dal ni Khichdi

Yellow Gram Rice
Ingredients:
Split Yellow Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
Rice – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 1 tblsp
Ginger – 1/2 inch piece, finely chopped
Green Chillies – 1, chopped
Cinnamon – 1/2 inch stick
Whole Black Peppercorns – 4
Asafoetida Powder – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Water – 2 1/2 cups
Salt as per taste

Method:
1. Mix the rice and dal together.
2. Wash and soak them for 15 minutes and drain.
3. Heat water in a pan till hot and keep aside.
4. Heat ghee in a heavy pan.
5. Add cumin seeds and allow it to splutter.
6. Add green chillies, ginger, peppercorns and cinnamon stick.
7. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida.
8. Stir fry for 2 minutes and add the rice and dal.
9. Add salt and mix well.
10. Pour the hot water and bring to a boil.
11. Transfer to a pressure cooker and cook till 4 whistles.
12. Remove the cooker from heat and keep aside till the pressure is released.
13. Serve hot.
