Cauliflower Garam Masala Kootu

Ingredients:
Cauliflower – 1, medium
Onion – 1, medium, minced
Tuvar Dal – 1/2 cup
Green Chillies – 3, slit
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Coconut – 3 tblsp, grated
Coriander Leaves – 1 tblsp, chopped
Oil – 1 tblsp
Salt to taste

Fry in 2 tsp Oil and Powder:
Red Chillies – 2
Pepper – 1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon – 1/2 inch piece
Cloves – 2 to 3

For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs

Method:
1. Boil dal so that it is cooked but not mushy, each dal should be separate.
2. Boil cauliflower separate with salt and just enough water, so that it is cooked, but not overdone.
3. Heat oil, season with mustard seeds and curry leaves, add onion; fry to a light brown colour.
4. Add cooked dal and cauliflower, stir fry for a while.
5. Add prepared powder, chopped coriander leaves.
6. Stir to mix thoroughly, adding some water if necessary.
7. Simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.
8. Serve hot with rice or chapathis.
