Chilli Prawns Recipe

Chilli Prawns is a very popular Indo-Chinese appetizer starter dish. Delicious and mouth-watering, this can be served as is or can be served with fried rice too. Ideal for those weekend parties or sunday brunch.

Chilli Prawns


To Fry:

  • Soy Sauce – 1 tsp
  • Corn Flour – 2 tblsp
  • Prawn – 12, Medium – Sized
  • Salt to Taste
  • Oil for Deep Frying

To Prepare Sauce:

  • Spring Onions – 2
  • Capsicum – 1/2 piece
  • Ginger – 1 small piece
  • Garlic – 4 cloves
  • Green Chilly – 1
  • Soy Sauce – 1 tblsp
  • Red Chilly Sauce – 1 tblsp
  • Tomato Sauce – 1 tblsp
  • Corn Flour – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Salt to Taste


  1. Clean and wash the prawns well.
  2. Chop the spring onions and capsicum to medium size pieces.
  3. Mix the corn flour along with water to form a paste.
  4. Take a bowl, add the prawn pieces, salt, soy sauce, Corn flour and mix thoroughly.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying.
  6. Fry the marinated prawn pieces in oil till crisp and golden brown.
  7. To another pan, add oil and heat under medium flame.
  8. Add the chopped ginger, garlic and green chilly.
  9. Add the chopped spring onions and capsicum.
  10. Add the soy sauce, tomato sauce, red chilly sauce and needed water.
  11. Cook until it gets boiled well.
  12. When they are cooked well, add the fried prawns and the corn flour paste and mix well.
  13. Cook until the gravy has thickened and water is fully evaporated.
  14. Sprinkle spring onion on top and serve hot.
