Kadala Curry

Black Chana – 500 gms, boiled
Coconut – 1 1/2 cups, grated
Sambar Onions – 75 gms
Dry Red Chillies – 25 gms
Coriander Seeds – 25 gms
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
Coconut Oil – 50 ml
Garlic – 5 gms
Salt as per taste
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Onions – 50 gms, sliced
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp

1. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan over medium flame.
2. Add the coconut, sambar onions, red chillies, coriander seeds, curry leaves and garlic.
3. Saute for a minute or two.
4. Remove and grind well to a paste.
5. Heat the remaining oil in the pan.
6. Fry the mustard seeds till it starts to splutter.
7. Add the onions, coriander powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder.
8. Add the ground masala paste and stir well.
9. Add the black chana and pour enough water.
10. Add salt and cook until the gravy starts to thicken.
11. Remove to a serving dish.
12. Serve hot.
