Shahi Paneer Recipe

Shahi Paneer (also known as Royal Paneer) is a very delicious and popular side dish made with paneer, cream and spices. It comes from the Mughlai cuisine and is a flavourful accompaniment to roti, naan or pulao varieties.

How to make Shahi Paneer

Ingredients:

  • Paneer – 500 gms, cubed + 4 tblsp, grated
  • Onion – 2, chopped
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece, finely chopped
  • Green Chillies – 3 to 4, finely chopped
  • Tomatoes – 6 to 8, finely chopped (depending on size)
  • Cardamoms – 3, crushed
  • Curd – 1/2 cup, beaten
  • Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
  • Ghee – 5 to 6 tblsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  • Cream (or Milk) – 1 cup
  • Tomato Sauce – 4 tblsp
  • Coriander Leaves – handful, chopped
  • Salt as per taste


Method:

  1. Heat 3 tblsp of ghee in a pan.
  2. Saute the onions, ginger, green chillies and cardamoms for 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomatoes and cover the pan with a lid.
  4. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Add the beaten curd and cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Pour 1/2 to 1 cup of water and cook for a minute.
  7. Remove and transfer to a mixer jar.
  8. Blend till smooth and keep aside.
  9. Heat the remaining ghee in another pan.
  10. Add the ground gravy along with red chilli powder, garam masala powder, tomato sauce and salt.
  11. Bring to a boil or till the gravy turns thick.
  12. Add the paneer cubes and cream.
  13. Cook for another 3 to 5 minutes.
  14. Garnish with coriander leaves and grated paneer.
  15. Remove and serve hot.
