Radish with Moong Dal

Ingredients:
Radish – 1, large
Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander Leaves – 2 tblsp
Oil/Ghee – 1/2 tblsp
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
Sugar – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste

Grind to Paste:
Garlic – 4 cloves
Green Chillies – 3 to 4
Ginger – 1 inch piece

For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Red Chilli – 1, broken
Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs

Method:
1. Boil dal with enough water and turmeric powder on low heat. Do not allow dal to get mushy.
2. Scrape radish, cut into thin semi-circles, add to dal along with ground paste and salt.
3. Cook till radish turns soft.
4. Heat oil, season in ghee/oil the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, red chilli and curry leaves.
5. When done, pour into dal.
6. Add sugar, coriander leaves, simmer once, remove from fire.
7. Add lemon juice.
8. Serve hot.
