Pongal Recipe

Raw Rice – 1 kg
Moong Dal – 250 gms
Cashewnuts – 1/2 cup
Peppercorns – 8
Milk – 1/2 cup
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves – 5
Green Chillies – 5
Ghee – 100 gms
Salt to Taste

1. Heat ghee in a deep pan.
2. Add cumin and mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, pepper and cashewnuts.
3. Add rice and dal.
4. Stir fry for 5 minutes.
5. Add milk and 3 cups of water.
6. Add salt to taste.
7. Cover and cook on a low flame till the rice is fluffy and soft.
8. Serve with chutney and sambar or kathirikai gojju.
