Ribbed Gourd Masoor Dal

Ingredients:
Masoor Dal – 1/2 cup
Ridge Gourd (or Ribbed Gourd) – 250 gms
Tamarind Pulp – 1 cup
Oil – 2 tblsp
Onion – 1, finely chopped
Green Chillies – 8, chopped
Tomatoes – 2, chopped
Garlic – 1 tsp, ground
Salt as per taste
Turmeric Powder as required

For Seasoning:
Curry Leaves – 4
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp

For Garnishing:
Dry Red Chillies – 3
Coriander Leaves – handful

Method:
1. Soak the dal in water for 30 minutes.
2. Boil till half cooked.
3. Peel the gourd and cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces.
4. Heat oil and fry the vegetables.
5. Add dal with 1/2 cup of water and cook together for a few minutes.
6. Add tamarind pulp, salt, turmeric powder and cook for a few minutes on low flame.
7. Add 1 cup of water for gravy.
8. In a separate pan, heat a tsp of oil.
9. Fry seasoning ingredients till dark brwon and pour over the curry.
10. Remove and Garnish with coriander leaves.
11. Serve hot with rice.
