Meen Dakshini (Deccan Fish Curry)

Ingredients:
Murrel Fish or any Fish – 1 kg, washed and cut into 1 inch slices
Onions – 3, finely chopped
Ginger – 1 tsp, ground
Garlic – 2 tsp, crushed
Salt as per taste
Green Chillies – 4
Tamarind Pulp – 3 tblsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 3 tblsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves – handful
Coriander Leaves – handful

Method:
1. Mix salt, ginger, garlic, chilli powder and turmeric powder.
2. Marinate the fish in this mixture for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
3. Heat oil in a pan.
4. Add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds and onions.
5. Fry till the onions brown.
6. Add the fish and chopped green chillies.
7. Fry lightly.
8. Add tamarind pulp and 1 cup of water.
9. Simmer on a slow flame till the fish is cooked.
10. Add curry leaves and coriander leaves.
11. Cook for 2 minutes and remove from fire.
12. Serve hot with roti or rice.
