Maash ki Dal Recipe

Urad Dal – 1 cups
Salt as per taste
Cinnamon – 1/2 inch stick
Pepper – 1/8 tsp
Cloves – 2
Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 tsp
Green Chillies – 1 to 2, slit lengthwise
Oil as required
Onions – 1 to 2, finely sliced
Garlic – 1/2 tsp, crushed
Cardamoms – 2 to 3
Ginger – 1/2 tsp, ground
Cream – 1/2 tblsp

1. Lightly boil the urad dal.
2. Add salt and allow most of the water to evaporate.
3. Fry the onions to light brown.
4. Keep half the onions for garnishing.
5. Fry garlic lightly with remaining onions in pan.
6. Pound the cardamoms, cinnamon and cloves.
7. Add urad dal to pan with fried onions and fry lightly.
8. Add 1 cup of water and all the ground spices, green chillies and ginger.
9. Cook till dal is soft on low heat till a thick gravy is formed.
10. Add cream and garnish with fried onions.
11. Serve hot with roti.
