Tamarind – a big lemon sized ball, dissolved in 2 cups of water
Appalam – 2, small, broken (fried or roasted)
Sambar Powder – 3 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Bengal Gram – 1 tsp
Vendhayam – 1 tsp
Curry Leaves – few
Oil – 4 tsp
Salt as per taste

1. Heat oil in a pan.
2. Fry the mustard seeds, bengal gram and vendhayam for a minute.
3. Add the broken appalams and sambar powder.
4. Pour the tamarind water.
5. Mix well and add salt.
6. Bring to a boil.
7. Garnish with curry leaves.
8. Serve hot with rice.
