Paruppu Adai

Urad Dal – 1/2 cup
Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
Chana Dal – 1/2 cup
Rice – 1 cup
Dried Red Chillies – 5
Salt as per taste
Coconut – 4 tblsp, grated
Onions – 2, finely chopped
Coriander Leaves – 3 tblsp, finely chopped
Asafoetida Powder – 1/2 tsp
Ginger – 1 inch piece, grated
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig

1. Wash all dals, rice and red chillies.
2. Drain and soak in 2 cups of water for 2 hours.
3. Drain well and grind to make a coarse batter, adding 1/2 cup of water.
4. Add the remaining ingredients, except oil.
5. Mix well.
6. Heat a tawa over moderate heat.
7. Pour a ladle of batter and spread as thin as possible.
8. Make a 1/4 inch hole in the centre.
9. Cook till base is golden.
10. Turn carefully and fry the other side till crisp and golden.
11. Serve hot with chutney of choice.

Note: If you do not like onion and ginger, do not add it to the batter.
