Ingredients:
Tamarind Extract – 1 cup
Toor Dal – 2 tsp
Pepper – 3 tsp
Jeera – 3 tsp
Curry Leaves – 2 tsp
Tomatoes – 1 cup (optional)
Red Chilli – 1, broken into two
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Salt as per taste
Ghee
Asafoetida Powder – a pinch

Method:
1. In a broad vessel add the tamarind extract.
2. Add turmeric powder, red chilli and salt.
3. Let it boil for sometime.
4. Grind the pepper, jeera, curry leaves and toor dal.
5. Add a little ghee and the ground powder to the rasam.
6. Add the asafoetida powder.
7. Simmer for sometime.
8. If you using tomatoes, add it now.
9. Remove from heat and serve with plain rice.
