shark, cod or sole fish – ½ kg
garlic – 8 flakes, crushed
onion – 1 cup, sliced
oil – 3 tbsp
chilli powder – 1 tsp
turmeric powder – ½ tsp
black pepper powder – ½ tsp
tamarind – size of a big marble
salt – to taste
Clean and cut the fish into 1″ cubes.
Soak tamarind in 2 Tbsp of hot water and extract the juice.
Mix all the powders with this extract.
Heat oil, fry garlic till fragrant. Add onion, fry till light brown.
Add the tamarind-masala mix and fry well.
Add 1 ½ cup of water, fish and salt to taste.
Bring to a boil and simmer till the fish is cooked.
