Red Chutney

Chana Dal – 3 tblsp
Urad Dal – 3 tblsp
Dry Red Chillies – 3 tblsp
Tamarind Extract – 2 tsp, thick
Fresh Coconut – 1/2, grated
Salt – 3/4 tsp

1. Roast the dals in a heavy bottomed kadai until golden brown.
2. Add the red chillies and toss them for a few moments until crisp.
3. Do not let the red chillies change colour.
4. Remove the kadai from heat and set aside until cool.
5. Grind the dals, red chillies, tamarind extract, coconut and salt to a thick paste.
6. Serve with rice or idli/dosai.
