Ingredients:
Rice – 1 cup
Oil – 3 tblsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Tomatoes – 2, medium and minced
Ginger Paste – 1 tblsp
Garlic Paste – 1 tblsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder – 2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Poppy Seeds – 3 tblsp
Turnips – 2 medium sized, cut into small cubes
Salt – 1 tsp
For Garnish:
Dried Red Chillies – 1 to 2, kept whole
Method:
1. Wash rice and soak in water for 15 minutes.
2. Heat oil in a heavy based pan over moderate heat.
3. Sprinkle in cumin seeds and when they splutter, mix in tomatoes, ginger, garlic, spice powders and poppy seeds,
4. Stir fry till well blended.
5. Add turnips and cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Drain rice and add to pan.
7. Stir till translucent.
8. Mix in salt and 2 cups water.
9. Cook rice in a pressure cooker.
10. Stir rice lightly, garnish with chillies.
11. Serve hot.
