Vazhakkai Podi


Raw Green Plantains – 3
Oil – 1 tblsp + extra for smearing plantains
Salt to taste
Bengal Gram Dal – 2 tblsp
Black Gram Dal – 2 tblsp
Red Gram Dal – 1 tblsp
Asafoetida Powder – 1/2 tsp
Dry Red Chillies – 6 to 8

1. Smear the extra oil on the skin of the plantains and roast directly on an open flame till cooked (the skin will turn black). Cool.
2. Skin the plantains and grate them. Mix in the salt and set aside.
3. Heat 1 tblsp oil and fry the bengal gram dal, black gram dal, red gram dal, asafoetida powder and red chillies. Powder fine in a grinder.
4. Mix the grated plantain with the powder in a pan on low heat till well blended.
5. Serve with rice.
