Microwave Tomato Rice Recipe

Cooking time: 18:30 mins.
 1 cup basmati rice
 2 onions (chopped)
 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
 1 tsp mustard seeds
 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
 1/4 garam masala powder
 1 tbsp oil
 4 – 6 curry leaves
 1 cup tomato puree
 Salt (to taste)
 1 1/2 cup water
 2 dry red chillies
 A pinch of asafoetida (heeng)

1. Wash and soak rice for 15 – 20 mins. Drain the excess water.
2. Now in another microwave safe bowl microwave oil at 100% power for 30 secs.
3. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida, curry leaves and microwave for 1 min. at 100% power.
4. Add chopped onion and other spices. Microwave for 2 mins at 100% power.
5. Now add tomato puree, soaked rice and 1 ½ cup of water. Microwave covered at 100% power for 9 – 10 mins. And then at 60% power for 5 – 6 mins. Stir twice in between and keep covered for 5 mins before serving.
6. Serve with rasam and curd etc.
