Aloo Gosht (Mutton with Potatoes) Recipe

Aloo Gosht is a popular North Indian and Pakistani gravy dish cooked with mutton and potatoes. Typically served with roti, naan, parathas or rice.
Aloo Gosht (Mutton with Potatoes)

Ingredients:
Lamb – 500 gms
Potatoes – 250 gms
Onions – 100 gms
Plain Yogurt – 100 gms
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tblsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 1/2 tsp
Oil – 100 ml + 3 tsp
Cloves – 4
Salt as per taste

Method:
1. Cut the lamb and potatoes into bite-sized chunks.
2. Finely chop the onions.
3. Heat 2 to 3 tsp oil in a pan.
4. Saute the onions until well browned.
5. Remove and keep aside.
6. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium flame.
7. Add the cloves and saute for 20 to 30 seconds.
8. Add the lamb pieces and cook for a minute.
9. Add the ginger garlic paste and stir well.
10. After 2 minutes, add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt.
11. Stir well and saute for 5 to 10 minutes.
12. Pour 500 to 600 ml of water.
13. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until the lamb is tender.
14. Add the potatoes, browned onions and plain yogurt.
15. Stir well and pour some more water.
16. Cook for another 10 minutes or until the potatoes are soft and cooked.
17. Add garam masala powder and stir.
18. Garnish with coriander leaves.
19. Remove from flame.
20. Serve with rotis or naan.
