Vazhaikai Roast / Raw Banana Roast
2 raw bananas
2-3 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp black gram dal (urad dal)
2 sprigs curry leaves
Fry in 1 tsp oil and powder
2 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp black gram dal (ural dal)
2 red chillies
a small pinch of asafoetida
Add to above powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1. Cut banana into halves, add sufficient water and boil with the skins on till well cooked, either directly or in a pressure cooker.
2. Remove from water, peel skins and cut or break the bananas into medium size pieces.
3. Sprinkle prepared powder on the pieces and mix well, so that all the pieces are coated with the masala powder.
4. Heat oil, add mustard and when done add the black gram dal. When dal turns brown, add the curry leaves and banana pieces, fry till brown and crisp. If necessary add some more oil while frying.
