3/4 cup channa dal
a large bunch of spinach (palak)
salt to taste
1/2 inch piece ginger
2 green chillies
1 tsp chilly powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp ghee
a pinch of pepper (optional)
1. Wash and chop the vegetables into small pieces. Cook all the ingredients together except for the garam masala, ghee and pepper in a pressure cooker along with salt and very little water.
2. When cooked, mash the dal and vegetables slightly.
3. Just before serving, heat the ghee, add the garam masala powder, pepper and pour into the dal.
