Onion Thogayal

Onion – 4 to 5 medium sized, sliced
Tomato – 1 small, finely chopped
Red chillies – 6 to 7(medium spicy ones) or accd to taste
Urad dal (split black gram) – 2 to 3 tsps
Oil for frying
Salt to taste


Take a tsp of oil in a kadhai. Add urad dal & red chillies. Roast it till the dal starts turning light brown. Remove from the gas immediately. Over roasting it will spoil the taste.
Then take some more oil & fry the onions till slightly golden brown. Remove them & keep aside.
Add the tomatoes in the same oil & slightly roast it. Add little water sufficient enough to cook the tomatoes & cook it.
Let all this cool & then grind everything together with salt & little water if necessary.

This can be mixed with rice & eaten accompanied by a gravy.
