It cannot lay claim to being the first or even the only classic, but it has all the characteristic hallmarks of sophistication associated with cocktails.
Wedge of lemon
1 tsp caster sugar
4-6 cracked ice cubes
2 measures brandy
½ measure clear Curacao
½ measure maraschino
½ measure lemon juice
Lemon slice, to decorate
1. Rub the rim of a chilled cocktail glass with the lemon wedge and then dip in the sugar to frost.
2. Put the cracked ice into a cocktail shake. Pour the brandy, Curacao, maraschino and lemon juice over the ice and shake vigorously until a frost forms.
3. Strain into the frosted glass and decorate with the lemon slice.
