The 1960s and 1970s saw the meteoric rise in popularity of this simple, long drink, perhaps because of highly successful marketing by Bacardi brand rum, the original white Cuban rum (now produced in the Bahamas) and coca-cola, but more likely because rum and cola seem to be natural companions.
INGREDIENT:
4-6 cracked ice cubes
2 measures white rum
Cola, to top up
Wedge of lime, to decorate
METHOD:
1. Half fill a highball glass with cracked ice cubes.
2. Pour the rum over the ice and top up with cola.
3. Stir gently to mix and decorate with a lime wedge.
