Khatti Dal Gosht Recipe
Ingredients:
Mutton - 500 gms, cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
Arhar Dal - 1 cup
Onions - 2, medium, finely chopped
Tomatoes - 5, medium, finely chopped
Ginger Paste - 1 tsp
Garlic Paste - 1 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Jeera Methi Powder - 2 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1 tblsp
Tamarind Pulp - 6 tblsp
Coriander Leaves - 4 tblsp, chopped
For Seasoning:
Oil - 4 tblsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Whole Dried Red Chillies - 5
Garlic Cloves - 8
Curry Leaves - 12
Method:
1. Wash the meat and set aside to drain.
2. Put the meat, dal, onions, tomatoes, ginger paste, garlic paste, red chilli powder, jeera methi powder, turmeric powder, salt and 1 litre of water into a pressure cooker.
3. Pressure cook for 10 to 15 minutes after the cooker reaches full pressure.
4. After it is cooled, remove the mutton and set aside.
5. Blend the remaining in a food processor/blender till the dal is well mixed with the cooked ingredients.
6. Add the mutton to the blended ingredients.
7. Add the tamarind pulp and cook for 10 minutes till the dal has a gravy consistency.
8. Pot the oil in a pan on moderate heat till it smokes.
9. Add the seasoning ingredients and allow them to crackle.
10. When the garlic begin to brown, remove and pour it into the dal/mutton mixture.
11. Stir gently and garnish with coriander leaves.
12. Serve.
