Ingredients:
Green Gram - 100 gms
Tamarind pulp - 20 gms
Red Chilli - 5
Turmeric Powder - 1 pinch
Sambar Powder - 2 tsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek - 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 50 ml
Salt to taste
Onion/Sambar Onion - 75 gms
Tomatoes - 50 gms
Asafoetida - 1 pinch

Method:
1. Cook dal till it is soft.
2. In one cup of hot water, add tamarind and salt.
3. In a frying pan, add mustard, fenugreek, asafoetida, red chilli and when mustard crackles and the fenugreek turns red, add diced onion, cook till slight brown.
4. Add the chopped tomatoes.
5. Add the tamarind juice and boil it for few minutes.
6. Add cooked dhal and bring it to boil.
7. Add sambar powder and remove from the stove.
