Bussar Recipe
Ingredients:
Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup, cooked
Mixed Greens - 4 cups, chopped
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Onion - 1, medium, chopped
Coconut Gratings - 2 to 3 tblsp
Tamarind - 1 small ball
Jaggery - 1 small piece
Salt to taste
Fry in 2 tsp Oil and Powder
Coriander Seeds - 2 tblsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1 small piece
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch piece
Red Chillies - 2 to 3
Pepper Corns - 1/2 tsp
For Seasoning:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 sprigs
Method:
1. Cook dal with turmeric powder, mash and set aside.
2. Cook greens separately.
3. When cool, add onion, coconut and 4 tsp of the prepared powder and grind to paste.
4. Extract tamarind water, add salt.
5. Cook for a while, till reduced to less than half of the quantity.
6. Add ground greens, mashed dal and jaggery, simmer for sometime adding some water if needed.
7. Heat oil, season ingredients and add to bussar.
8. Serve hot with rice.
