Yam Masiyal (Kerala Style) Recipe
Ingredients:
Yam - 1/2 kg
Thick Tamarind Extract - 2 tblsp
Green Chillies - 7
Ginger - 1 inch paste
Salt as required
Fresh Coconut - 1 1/2 tblsp, grated
Coconut Oil - for frying coconut
Mustard Seeds - little, for seasoning
Urad Dal - little, for seasoning
Bengal gram dal - little, for seasoning
Oil - little
Method:
1. Pressure cook yam and remove outer skin.
2. Slice ginger and chillies into fine pieces.
3. Mash the cooked yam coarsely.
4. Heat oil in a frying pan, add seasonings, chillies and ginger.
5. Fry for a minute and add mashed yam, tamarind extract, salt and stir fry for 5 to 10 minutes.
6. Fry the grated coconut in coconut oil till golden yellow and add to masiyal just before removing from fire.
