Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tuvar or Arhar Dal
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic (grated)
  • One small Onion
  • Handful of Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups Buttermilk
  • 4 Green Chillies (slit)
  • 1/4 Coconut (grated)
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • A few Curry leaves
  • Handful of Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

  • Wash and soak the dal for a few hours.
  • Drain the water and grind dal to a coarse paste with ginger, garlic, chillies, and onions.
  • Mix salt and coriander leaves in the paste.
  • Form the paste into small balls and steam the balls for 20 minutes.
  • Grind chana dal, Coconut, coriander, cumin, and fenugreek seeds to a paste.
  • Mix the paste into the buttermilk along with turmeric and salt.
  • Place buttermilk on fire and put in the green chillies and dal koftas.
  • Boil for 2-3 minutes and remove the curry from the fire.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil and put in mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • When the seeds stop bursting, pour the oil over the curry.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
