Meen Murringakka Curry Recipe
Ingredients:
Sardines - 3
Turmeric powder as required
Coconut - 1, grated
Garlic - 2 tsp, chopped
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Tamarind - 1 small ball
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds as per taste
Onion - 1, sliced
Ginger - 1 tsp, chopped
Green chillies - 2, sliced
Curry leaves - 5 to 6
Water - 1 cup
Drumsticks - 6 pieces
Salt as per taste
For tempering
Coconut oil - 1 tsp
Shallots - 5
Red chilli - 1 whole
Mustard seeds - a few
Method:
1. Marinate the sardines in salt and turmeric powder for few hours.
2. Make a smooth paste of ground coconut, chilli powder, garlic and tamarind pulp.
3. Heat oil in pan and crackle fenugreek seeds.
4. Add onions, chopped ginger, green chillies and curry leaves and cook till they turn golden brown.
5. Add the masala paste, water and drumsticks and cook till the drumsticks are done. Add salt.
6. Now put the marinated fish and cook for 5 minutes on high heat, then simmer on low flame for another 5 minutes.
7. Heat coconut oil and add to it mustard seeds, shallots and the red chilli and cook for 5 minutes then pour this in to the prepared fish gravy.
