Tomato Masala Kootu Recipe
Ingredients:
Onions - 2 big
Tomatoes - 1/2 kg
Oil - for frying
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustrd seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Salt - as required
Grind together
Mint leaves - 1 small bunch
Coriander leaves - 1 small bunch
Grated fresh coconut - 1/2 cup
Poppy seeds - 1 1/2 tblsp (soak in hot water for 10 minutes)
Green chillies - 4
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Method:
1. Cut onions finely and tomatoes into 1 1/2 inch cubes.
2. Heat oil in a deep pan and add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves.
3. When it splutters add chopped onion and fry till crisp.
4. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder. Stir for a few minute and pour ground paste.
5. Mix enough salt and stir till good smell comes from that.
6. Add tomato pieces, enough water and cook till gravy thickens.
Serve hot with idli or dosa.
