Goddu Kootu Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 kg any vegetable
1 small ball of tamarind (optional)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 sprigs curry leaves
salt to taste
Fry in 1 tsp oil and grind to paste
3 tsp black gram dal
2 tsp bengal gram dal
1/2 tsp pepper corns
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
3 red chillies
a tiny piece of asafoetida
Adding
1/2 - 1 cup coconut gratings
Seasoning
2 tsp gingely oil
1/2 tsp mustard
1 tsp black gram dal
1 red chilly
Method:
1. Wash and cut vegetable into small pieces. Add turmeric powder, salt, 1 sprig curry leaf and boil either directly or in a pressure cooker. Do not over cook.
2. Boil tamarind in water, extract pulp, add to vegetable and allow to simmer for a while.
3. Add 1 cup hot water to ground masala, add to kootu mixing it thoroughly. Cook for a while till all of it is well blended.
4. Season in oil the ingredients (in that order), add to kootu, mix well.
Serve hot with rice or chapathis.
