Senai Masiyal Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 kg Senai (Yam)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
2 sprigs curry leaves
Grind to paste
2 red chillies
1-2 cloves
1/2 inch piece cinnamon
1/2 tsp aniseeds (saunf)
1/2 tsp poppy seeds (khus khus)
4 tbsp coconut gratings
Method:
1. Wash, peel and cut yam into small pieces. Add enough water, turmeric powder and salt. Cover and cook till soft. When done, slightly mash the pieces.
2. Heat oil, add mustard seeds and when done add curry leaves and ground paste, fry for a while. Add cooked yam and fry lightly mixing all of it together.
3. When quite dry, remove from kadai.
Serve with rice and rasam
