Hotel Sambar Recipe
Ingredients:
Small Onion - 200 gms, peeled
Tomato - 2, cut
Tamarind - small lemon sized amount
Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
Green Chillies - 3
Sugar or Jaggery - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil - as required
For Masala (Roast in a little oil and grind to powder)
Channa Dal - 1 tsp
Coriander Seeds - 3 tsp
Red Chillies - 4
Asafoetida - a pinch
Poppy Seeds - 1 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Red Chillies - 2
Curry Leaves - few
Chopped Coriander Leaves for garnishing
Method:
1. Pressure cook toor dal.
2. Keep aside.
3. Shallow fry onions with tomato and green chillies.
4. Extract tamarind in 3 cups of water.
5. Boil the fried onions in this, till done.
6. Add turmeric powder, salt and ground masala.
7. Boil for a few more minutes.
8. Now mix the cooked toor dal and sugar.
9. Boil for a few more minutes.
10. Serve hot.
