- Kadala Paruppu Payasam
Kadala Paruppu Payasam Recipe
Ingredients :
Bengal gram dal (chana dal) - 1/2 cup
A few almonds (opt)
Milk - 2- 2 1/2 cups
Sugar - 1 1/2 -2 cups
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Cashew nt pieces - 1 tbsp
Cardamoms, powdered - 4-5
A pinch of saffron
A pinch of cooking camphor
Method :
1. Dry roast dal till golden brown in colour, stirring all the while. Remove from fire, cool and soak in water for some strain.
2. Soak alomonds separately in hot water. Peel skin. Add dal to almonds and grind to a fine paste.
3. Add 2 cups of water, mix well, set to boil, Cook on low heat, stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed.
4. When the dal has cooked sufficiently ( till the raw smell disappears ), add the sugar and cook further till the suagr has dissolved.
5. Add milk, cook for a few minutes longer till all of it is well blended.
6. Add saffron, cardomom and camphor. Fry cashew nut pieces in ghee, add to payasam, mix well.
